New nurses faced additional challenges during COVID-19 including online clinicals and making the transition from school to nursing practice. This session will feature an online facilitated discussion of the challenges and practical tips from experienced nurses. This will be a safe place to discuss and share your experiences.
Chris Henshaw, EdD, RN, NPD-BC is a nurse educator who has worked in both academia, teaching nursing students, and in the hospital setting onboarding and orienting new graduate nurses. Her clinical background is critical care and cardiac nursing, and helping students and nurses learn and develop is her life-long passion.
Antwinett O. Lee, EdD, MSN-CNS, RN is the Associate Dean of Nursing at Bellevue College. She has served on the board of KCNA, including as president, and has been a mentor in the MentorLink program. Antwinett is a member of Mary Mahoney Professional Nurses Organization and a board member for the Washington Center for Nursing.
Maddy McCaslin, BSN, RN is a new nurse who graduated with her BSN in 2018. She began her nursing career in outpatient diabetes management at Kaiser Permanente before making the switch to public health where she currently works as a maternal child population health nurse. As a new nurse Maddy has freshly navigated the transition to professional nursing practice and faced the challenges COVID-19 has brought to this transition.
•Participants will receive a Zoom link invitation prior to the event.
•Upon evaluation submission, participants will receive a certificate of completion for 2.0 hours that meets the continuing competency requirement for license renewal in Washington State
